I longed to ask Margaret about her experiences as the wife of a great lord... but I was afraid that if I were to mention anything about what went on behind the walls of Lindford Manor that I would be shunned, or worse, that I would become the talk of the society wives: a walking scandal that could bring ruin upon the Raloren name, and worse even still, that my shame could impact my husband’s business with the Coven.

No, it would never do.

And so, though I burned with questions, I had resolved to stay silent, and pretend that nothing scandalous was happening beneath the noses of everyone at Lindford Manor. Including my dear husband.

There was an excuse for everything... The ruined dress and the tattered chemise were easy enough to explain away, and the absences from dinners and other engagements were blamed upon sudden headaches. The high color in my cheeks was due to the freshness of the country air, and had nothing to do with the fact that nearly every hour of every day, I was thinking of ways to please her husband’s sister... and in some cases, ways to displease her.

She could be ever so cross with me when I disobeyed her rules.

Rules were an important part of our interactions, and when she called me “Lady Raloren,” my heart beat faster in my chest at the thought of what new and dangerous delights Talena had planned for our time together.

Since the last night of the shooting party, Artem had not approached me to share his bed, which left me with only the memories of how I had taken control of my own pleasure, and I could only relish the memory of how I had secured Talena to her favorite reading chair and plunged my face between her thighs while she moaned and writhed beneath my mouth and her juices had coated my tongue and chin.

As I stood in the library and selected a new novel to read, I smiled to myself and my eyes slid over to the high-backed chair that sat before the library fireplace.

If Talena had been here now, I might have been tempted to do something similar, but Talena had been in Evermore these past weeks, and she had left me with strict instructions... Rules for my behavior while she was away. I was not permitted to touch myself, which was becoming an agony, especially in the mornings when Rebecca brought my washing water.
